A chapter of Maine Audubon
Many environmentalists think of timber harvesting as a bad thing. In reality, active forest management can often improve habitat for native birds and other wildlife species. Join us for a bird walk through two differently managed forests. You’ll get to see what birds live in each one and why, and learn more about how professional foresters make management decisions with specific goals in mind.
This free walk will cover two miles round-trip over uneven terrain at a slow pace, with about 200 feet of vertical elevation gain. Participants should dress for the weather, and bring binoculars if you have them. We will also have binoculars available for loan upon request. Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot.
