A unique excursion for both birding and lighthouse enthusiasts!
This 6.5-hour adventure off the Downeast coast and eastern Gulf of Maine offers a chance to see numerous seabirds, including Atlantic puffins, razorbills, common murres, Arctic terns, common terns, northern gannets, shearwaters, Wilson’s storm petrels, phalaropes, and other pelagic species! Your expert guides, Bob Duchesne and Zack Klyver, will call out bird sightings as they appear on both sides of the ship.
Other wildlife sightings are likely, including harbor and gray seals, whales, porpoise, and dolphins.
The itinerary includes close-up views of the offshore lighthouses at Petit Manan, Machias Seal, Mount Desert Rock, and Great Duck Island, where you will learn some of the fascinating history and lore surrounding the lights and the lightkeepers.
Make sure to have binoculars and camera ready! The ship will come to a full stop near each island lighthouse, providing great opportunities to view and photograph both the lighthouses and the abundant wildlife. Offer includes two tickets for Saturday, July 19, the only date this tour will be offered in 2025. Departure from the Bar Harbor Whale Watch pier is at 10:30 a.m., return approximately 5 p.m. There is a limited selection of food and drink available for purchase on the ship, or you may bring your own provisions.
