SUMMARY: FEBRUARY FINCH FEST! -
DESCRIPTION:This winter is predicted to be a good year for Canadian-breeding finches to irrupt southward into Maine. Join trip leaders Sandi and Bob Duchesne for a finch-finding foray through Sunkhaze Meadows NWR and out the Stud Mill Road. Red and white-winged crossbills\, pine and evening grosbeaks\, purple finches\, and the small-finch trifecta – American goldfinch\, pine siskin\, and redpoll – will be our primary targets\, along with other year-round resident species and overwintering visitors. \nDirections: Meet in the large parking lot behind Wendy’s on Stillwater Avenue in Orono (off Exit 193 on I-95) to form carpools. Most of the trip route is over well-maintained gravel roads. This trip will cancel for predicted foul weather and/or icy road conditions. Please contact Sandi at 207-735-5436 to register\, so she can update the trip status with you on Saturday night.
